Hello everyone,

My name is Frank and I own a Farallon 25 w/210 Cummins, presently berthed in Sausalito. I like to mostly fish for salmon, and hope to see you in the water soon. :mat:

Hey Frank, welcome to the site. Did you just buy Toys R Us from Sherman? I have been seeing a lot of her out at andersons and driving around sausalito. Looked like someone was practicing driving on the docks etc...Awesome boat! Do you keep her in clipper? If so, what basin? I have a 25' Farallon with 210 cummins in basin 4. Hope to talk to you more.

-Spencer

Thanks for the great welcome! Yes, I did buy Sherman Peter's boat. He's been driving down from Bodega Bay helping me make improvements on the weekends. A phenomenal boat mechanic. I'm still at Anderson's getting some work done. Come by anytime, as I'm often putzin around on the boat after work.).

Talk to you all later,

Frank

Awesome...im at 1121 and often fooling around on the boat. Is your boat back in the water yet? I cant remember if i saw her today going past andersons. I normally look over and see her. Hey, how many hours are on your cummins? Just curious...My farallon is a 1979 but the cummins is from 1986 and installed in 1989. Pretty cool to have another 25' Farallon with the same engine close by. Actually that is funny...i was about to take 1231...its just across from mine.

The boat is still hauled out. Anderson's needs to install a holding tank under one of the bunks so that I can have a CG legal toilet. The motor has about 3,200 hours on it. It is a 1992 6BT-5.9M, installed by Tony Athens of Seaboard Marine in Oxnard. It's not a high performance diesel, but that also means that it should last a long time. Also, it's not a fast boat, but Tony likes to say that the slower you go, the less you break. I cruise at about 16-17 kts (2400 rpm), and max out at about 20-21 kts (2600 rpm). Sherman put in a Floscan for me, so I'll have GPH info as soon as I get it back in the water.

This is my third boat, but first inboard. I smacked into my dock neighbor's sailboat backing out of my slip the first time out. A real sickening (and terrifying) experience. A few day's later, Sherman Peters gave me a few lessons on how to handle the boat, and showed me what I was doing wrong. I found out that the boat is a lot easier to control by bumping it in and out of gear, rather than keeping it in gear, in certain situations. He also showed me how to work with the propeller pulling the stern left when in reverse. It was very perplexing though at first for me.

Nice...Tony Athens is awesome. I am assuming you are on boatdiesel.com with him? I don't know if you realized but My Farallon is practically the same as yours except older and a different pilothouse. It has the same hull and almost the same year Cummins 6bt-5.9M. Is yours direct drive or a v drive? This is my first boat that I have bought (im 23). I have driven some shaft drives before but its still scary. I have gotten docking down a lot better...My first time out i almost hit this 30' whaler with like 50 grand + worth of outboards. My brother had to jump on the whalers swim platform and push off. I figured out that pumping the throttle in and out of gear is great for turning. Just gotta take it very slowly as well. My cummins has 3700 hours so we are in the same ballpark. Great engines! Since we have the same everything almost you would guess that i also cruise at 17 knots ... at 2300. Your boat is a hell of a lot nicer looking but the guts are very similar haha. I would be cool to come stop by and check toys r us out. I was drooling over it for a while on coastside but i couldn't quite pull the trigger on that much $$.

Thank you for the compliments. Sherman deserves the credit for making it a cool boat.

It's a direct drive, not a v drive. Do you happen to know your transmission gear ratio? Mine is a Hurth 1.2 to 1. It has a 17 RH 17 4 blade propeller.

I think I almost hit the same whaler, but hit the sailboat instead.

Nice that we have the same boat and setup. Hope to compare notes with you after I get some more sea-time under my belt. Hey, if you want a running partner, let's run together for the salmon or tuna sometime. At least we'd be going at the same speed.

that would be awesome to tandem it out. I need some sea experience on my boat as well. There is also a really nice guy right next to my boat with a 25' skipjack that goes out a lot. But he has a gas engine with an outdrive...booooo

If you want a good bottom cleaner..."Dave's Diving" is local and does most of the boats in our basin. He will do your zincs and make sure everything is always looking good. I dont remember my prop and gears off hand but I have a 3 blade prop. Do you know when you will get your boat back in the slip? Tell andersons to hurry up! I'll be out in a halibut tournament on saturday...leaving the dock at about 5am.

Kodiax, those cathedral hulls are nice. My first two boats were cathedral hulls.

Spencer, thanks for the tip. I'm sure I'll need Dave's services at some point. Don't know when I'll be done at Anderson's, but I've got a really good project manager there (Rann). Good luck on Saturday! (BTW, are you still experiencing difficulty in getting on plane? If so, check out the comment I left for you on Boatdiesel.com)

Thanks for the comment...I dont know why I ever said i had difficulty getting on plane....I am not having the same problems now for some reason. The boat handles great. The only thing i want to do is get some insulation in the engine box to quiet it down a bit. I also need to get a radio / stereo in there.
